Here’s a quick Tuesday tip for folks using Dragon NaturallySpeaking for the PC:

By default, whenever a word-processor document is saved, Dragon asks whether you want to save the recording; in the Options dialog, you can change that setting to always save, or never save. Recorded dictation files can get very large, so you should really only save them if correction is to take place at a later time – without the recorded dictation, you can still edit and format the document as usual.

How do you speak Dragon?

This week, we shine the spotlight on Al Bartko, our customer of the week! After struggling with Parkinson’s disease for years and the tremors that are associated with it, Al discovered Dragon.

Try to formulate sentences and commands before you start dictating them. This may be challenging at first, particularly for those who have been “thinking through their fingers” for years, but you’ll develop the habit once you see what a difference it makes.

Dragon’s built-in voice commands are great, but you can be even more productive by creating your own custom commands. Just say, “add new command” and give your command memorable and unique name to get started. For detailed steps on how to create custom commands, see pgs. 78-80 in the workbook. (note: custom commands are only available in higher version of Dragon)
